Unintentional injury is still the number one killer of Americas children, taking more lives than disease, violence and suicide. In 1996 alone, nearly 6,300 children died from unintentional injuries, and each year more than 14 million children a staggering 1 out of 4 are injured seriously enough to require medical attention. Every one of these injuries affects an innocent child.
Prevention is the cure. Many of these injuries happen during a lapse in supervision or because a safety device wasnt used. Its estimated that by taking these and other simple precautions almost all (90 percent) of these unintentional injuries can be avoided.
